Community Resources donates ‘Teacher Bags’ to Wood County teachers

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) — On Monday morning, Community Resources held its third annual Teacher Bags collection event.

Teacher Bags are a collection of essential classroom items collected and donated to Wood County teachers.

The bags include tissues, disinfectant wipes, glue sticks, and other classroom items that students use daily.

This initiative was started three years ago when Community Resources saw the number of back-to-school events for students and the lack of teacher events.

Since its inception, the event has grown exponentially each year to a level that Program Director Kayla Morris never expected.

“Every year, we do 100 bags. This year, the bags filled up within 12 hours, so I had no more spots available within 12 hours. Last year it was 24 hours, and I do not remember the first year I think it went into a couple of days. It really has taken off. I had people reach out to me before we even opened it up to everybody,” said Morris.

Community Resources gives out 100 bags a year but is looking to expand to more bags in the future. If you are interested or want to know more about the program, you can email Kayla Morris at [email protected].
