California Department of Education building dealing with bed bugs


The headquarters of the California Department of Education in Sacramento is handling a possible infestation of bed bugs, officials confirmed to KCRA 3 on Friday.A representative of the department said it immediately worked with the Department of General Services to investigate and mitigate the issue.The area with the potential infestation has been sealed and mitigation efforts are underway, officials said. Impacted employees were advised to work from home as needed.Bed bugs are small insects that feed on the blood of humans and animals. They can be reddish brown in color when full-grown or yellowish-white when young, the California Department of Public Health said. A fully grown bed bug is about the size of an apple seed.Someone bitten by a bed bug may notice itchy welts, or bite marks, on their body.
